Yoshi's New Island

Yoshi's New Island

Yoshi and Baby Mario are back in Yoshi's New Island, the third installment in the popular series. The series' fun gameplay mechanics like Yoshi's flutter jump, ground smash, and egg toss return, but now Yoshi also knows a bunch of new tricks. Yoshi can smash into his surroundings by throwing Mega Eggdozers and Metal Eggdozers around. Yoshi can also transform into a variety of objects, such as a jackhammer or a submarine, both of which can be manipulated with the Nintendo 3DS gyro controls. A certain type of star even transforms him into Super Yoshi, giving him the ability to fly through the sky or run along walls and ceilings. Players who have trouble finishing a level can see the flutter wings that Yoshi can use to fly through the air.

Story

Yoshi's New Island takes place immediately after the events of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, where a stork delivers the twins Baby Mario and Baby Luigi to a couple in the Mushroom Kingdom who think they are their parents. At the beginning of Yoshi's New Island, it turns out that the stork delivered the babies to the wrong couple. The stork retrieves the babies and sets out to find their real parents, but is ambushed by Kamek mid-flight. Kamek captures the stork and Baby Luigi, but Baby Mario falls and finds himself with the Yoshi clan on Egg Island, a floating island captured by Baby Bowser. Baby Mario can telepathically sense where Baby Luigi is. The Yoshi clan agrees to escort Baby Mario across the island and rescue Baby Luigi. When Baby Mario and Yoshi make it to Baby Bowser's castle, Baby Bowser wakes up and pounces on Kamek, who tries to free Baby Mario and Yoshi. When Baby Bowser tries to ride Yoshi, Baby Bowser is defeated. Kamek uses a giant magic hammer to make Baby Bowser gigantic. After defeating the giant Baby Bowser, Yoshi sets out to free the trapped stork and rescue Baby Luigi when he encounters the adult Bowser who has flown through space and time. After Yoshi defeats the adult Bowser, Kamek again uses a giant magic hammer to make the adult Bowser huge. After defeating the adult Bowser, Yoshi rejoins the stork and baby Luigi, and the stork takes baby Mario and Luigi back to their true home. The moving helping warp tube that helped Yoshi throughout the journey turns out to be an adult Mario at the end, who has also traveled back through time and space to help Yoshi succeed and return to his own timeline.
