Yo-Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits
Similar to its predecessor, Yo-kai Watch 2 is an open-world role-playing game in which players take control of the character Nathan Adams or Katie Forester. Players navigate the open world using the Nintendo 3DS touch screen to find and befriend various Yo-kai scattered throughout the world. Players befriend the Yo-kai by giving them a food they like before battle. After they defeat the yo-kai, it approaches the character and gives them their yo-kai medal, which can be used to summon them at will. A new feature in battles involves using the touch screen to find a specific sweet spot on an enemy Yo-kai to increase the likelihood of befriending them at the end of the battle, or other sweet spots for extra damage, extra money, or extra experience. Yo-kai can also be acquired through an in-game crank-a-kai (Gasha machine) by collecting in-game coins or using game coins. Certain Yo-kai are necessary to complete the game's main quest, and special, rare Yo-kai can be acquired through various side quests. Yo-kai have the ability to evolve into stronger versions of themselves when they reach a certain level, or they can evolve by combining with certain items or other Yo-kai. The Yo-kai are divided into eight different classes, all of which have their own strengths and weaknesses. There are also legendary Yo-kai that can only be obtained by collecting a certain group of Yo-kai listed in the Yo-kai Medallion, a compendium of the various Yo-kai the player has encountered or befriended. When the player encounters a Yo-kai, he fights it by using six Yo-kai that he has previously befriended. The touch screen is used during battle to switch between the player's Yo-kai in battle at will. It is also used to remove status effects on the player's Yo-kai or to recharge the Yo-kai's Soultimate abilities. While there were nearly 250 Yo-kai in the original Yo-kai Watch game, there are nearly 450 in Yo-Kai Watch 2, including some that appeared as bosses in the original game.
