World Circuit: The Grand Prix Race Simulation
Formula 1 Grand Prix (known as World Circuit in the USA) is the first installment in Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix series. The game contains all 16 international GP circuits from 1991 and players can race them in Quick Race mode, Single Race mode or in a full championship. The 18 teams and 35 drivers and their performances are based on the 1991 season, but the game contains no real names. It is possible to edit and save team and driver names manually. The extensive tuning feature influences the car's performance. With the in-race setup, players can adjust gear ratios, brake balance, wing downforce and tires every time they visit the pits. Six optional driving aids help F1 newcomers to finish their race: Players can turn on best line and suggested gear indicators to learn track tactics, or have auto-braking, auto gears, self-righting turns and indestructibility to improve their driving. A replay system allows players to view race scenes from three different perspectives, including camera shots from the track. The game features 3D graphics and various details and effects such as working rear-view mirrors, collisions with flying debris, rough damage models (fenders are visibly bent after a crash) and wet weather that affects traction, including a fog effect that obscures vision when driving into another car's spray. While the Amiga version allowed multiplayer races in hotseat mode, the PC version originally only had single races. In 1993, modem support and some other improvements were added with the v1.05 update.
