World Championship Soccer
The game offers a top-down view of a simple version of soccer (there are no fouls, substitutions or strategies). Players must dribble and pass the ball to one end of the field and try to score a goal by shooting the ball into the opponent's net.
Story
This is the second officially licensed World Cup game based on the 1990 FIFA World Cup and includes the official logo and mascot. The first game was the ill-fated and little known World Cup Carnival for the 1986 FIFA World Cup. The game includes the official groups, teams and the original championship schedule. The game takes place in a bird's eye view. It was ported by U.S. Gold for DOS, Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum. The Spectrum version of the game ended up at #2 on the sales charts in the UK, behind Manchester United. After the World Cup, the game was released under the name World Championship Soccer and later renamed Sega Soccer on the Mega 6 compilation cartridge for the Mega Drive, with the Virgin Mastertronic credits removed. In Brazil, it was released under the name Super Futebol II. In World Cup Italia 90, the player has the choice of competing with one of the teams that participated in the tournament itself, and there are no qualifying tournaments for the World Cup.
