Wipeout XL
WipEout XL is set in the year 2097, some four decades after its predecessor. Instead of the F3600 anti-gravity racing competition, the game offers an even faster and more dangerous tournament: the F5000 AG League. The game system is similar to its predecessor: players compete against each other or against the computer in futuristic high-speed environments, collecting weapons scattered throughout the stages and using them against opponents to finish the race in the highest position.
Story
While the original game introduced the F3600 anti-gravity racing league in 2052, Wipeout 2097 takes place over four decades later and introduces players to the much faster, more competitive and dangerous F5000 AG racing league. The game is set exactly 101 years after the game's actual release year (100 in the case of the Saturn port). The Sega Saturn version supported analog control with the optional 3D Control Pad, while the PlayStation version supported analog control with the optional Negcon Twist controller (as in the first release of the series).
