In contrast to the more realistic field hockey gameplay of Electronic Arts' NHL series, the game featured a more unrealistic arcade style with moves like "power saves" that briefly turned the goalie into a wall, "power shots" that set the net on fire or knocked the goalie into the net, and "power checks" that sent an ambulance across the screen. There were high-scoring games and over-the-top fights. There was also a simulation mode for those who wanted more realistic gameplay. The game allowed creating profiles and recorded important individual and team statistics, such as goals, assists and victories.
