Unreal Tournament 2004
Unreal Tournament 2004 is a multiplayer first-person shooter that combines the kill-or-be-killed experience of gladiatorial combat with cutting-edge technology. Ten game modes - both team-based and "every man for himself" - offer even the most hardcore players hand-wringing challenges in incredibly detailed indoor arenas and huge outdoor environments. As the ultimate techno-gladiator of the future, take control of your destiny and battle online against up to 32 other players in action-packed arenas filled with shards. Assault Mode - Assault Mode returns! This popular mode has been revamped for UT2004 and pits teams against each other to defend and attack fortified bases - from fast-moving trains racing through an arid alien desert to a Skaarj mothership ready to attack the human homeworld. Onslaught Mode - Onslaught mode takes team combat to the next level! Opposing teams compete to capture and hold strategic points in order to attack and destroy the enemy power core. The battles take place in huge outdoor areas and this is where the vehicles come into play. Flying and driving machines bring the fighters to the front lines and gigantic mobile battle stations serve as platforms from which devastating attacks can be launched. Vehicles - Step into a range of land, air and space vehicles that play a crucial role in a successful battle strategy in Assault and Onslaught. With vehicles ranging from one-man fighters to five-man behemoths, Unreal Tournament 2004 offers players a wide selection of mechanized tools of destruction. Levels - More than 95 maps will be available immediately, including more than 45 brand new maps for all existing game modes as well as new game modes. Vast outdoor environments, deep space combat zones, and tightly packed indoor techno arenas await the tournament's newest participants. Weapons - The entire smorgasbord of destructive weapons from Unreal Tournament 2003 returns for the experienced player to masterfully use against new participants. These weapons are joined by three new tools of doom: The minelayer, which ejects spider-like bombs that track and harass any enemy within range; the anti-vehicle rocket launcher (AVRiL), which drops a load of massive missiles to seek out and destroy enemy mechanical units; the grenade launcher, which drops timed explosives that ricochet on the ground and stick to enemies and enemy vehicles, which can only be triggered by the command "Altfire"; and the return of the infamous sniper rifle from the original Unreal Tournament, completely redesigned and upgraded to make heads roll. New Characters - Unreal Tournament 2004 introduces 32 new characters on four new teams: The human Thunder Crash, led by tournament hero Malcolm; the Robotic Corrupt, led by an upgraded Xan Kriegor; the Iron Skull, a team of merciless Skaarj warriors; and the Hellions - ruthless human mercenaries and pirates who love the thrill of the kill. New Technology - Unreal Tournament not only offers new content for hardcore fans to enjoy, but also a massive technology update over its predecessor, offering a faster, more polished and deeper gameplay experience than ever before.
Story
The game is set in a universe where humans long ago fought a war with the Skaarj that left their galactic empire in ruins. To help rebuild the colonies and calm the angry colonists, Liandri Corporation came up with the idea of holding a gladiator tournament for the miners. Interest was so great that it developed into a sport in which sponsored teams fought in specially built arenas. From the beginning, Xan Kriegor, a robot, was the champion of the tournament until Malcolm, who was leading Team Thunder Crash at the time, defeated him and joined forces with the other popular team at the time - the Iron Guard, led by Brock. In last year's tournament, they were defeated by the Juggernauts, who were led by the gene-enhanced monster Gorge. The game takes place as the tournament enters its tenth year. Malcolm is back with his old Team Thunder Crash trying to reclaim his title as champion, Brock is back with the Iron Guard trying to claim his own glory, and Gorge and the Juggernauts are there to defend their title. Also, the Skaarj Empire has sent its own team to the tournament in search of honor and glory, and ex-champion Xan Kriegor has made some changes and is back to put the title back where it belongs.
