Twin Hawk
Twin Hawk is a vertically scrolling arcade shooter game from 1989, developed by Toaplan and published by Taito. Twin Hawk is similar to other shooters of the time, in particular Toaplan's earlier game Flying Shark. As with Toaplan's other games, Twin Hawk had several differences between the Japanese version and other versions, including a checkpoint system and a higher difficulty level for the Japanese version. Unusually, the game also contains no flying enemies, so no physical obstacles and a stronger focus on the number and speed of ground troops. Another special feature of Twin Hawk is the unique "Smartbomb" in the form of a group of friendly planes: pressing the 2 button once summons six flying fortresses to surround and protect the player's plane and provide fire cover. They can easily be shot down by enemy fire, so the player must use them wisely. If you press button 2 again immediately after retrieving them, the planes will be sacrificed for a typical smartbomb. If you press 2 while another plane is on the screen, all planes will be crashed into the nearest enemies below you.
