This Starry Midnight We Make is a sky-growing simulation game in which you create celestial objects using the mysterious Star-seeing Basin. This Starry Midnight We Make is a story-heavy puzzle simulation game in which the player uses the Star-seeing Basin to create a simulation of the night sky as seen through the lens of the ancient Japanese system of Onmyou divination. As the player creates different stars, he affects the world around him and experiences the stories of the characters associated with the Basin unfold in cutscenes that use Starry Midnight's unique graphic style.

Story

"Hamomoru Tachibana, our protagonist, is an overly serious, slightly hot-tempered clergywoman. While on vacation in Kyoto, Japan, in the early 20th century, she attends a night festival at a local shrine. While enjoying one of the local specialties, she gets lost in a deep forest path near the shrine. In the depths of the forest, flanked by a trio of archways, Hamomoru meets Chuuya Shingoh, a curious, self-proclaimed student of science. Chuuya shows Hamomoru the "stargazing tank", in which you can apparently "grow" stars, and a model of the night sky with pebbles, and invites Hamomoru to join in his experiments. She hesitates at first, but her lack of money forces her to stay in Kyoto anyway. When she finally accepts Chuuya's offer to help him with his accommodation, she agrees to help him with his "research" in return. According to Chuuya, the stars formed in the basin can affect the rest of the city in a similar way to that often described in Onmyou divination. To confirm this, Hamomoru and Chuuya will walk the streets of Kyoto while creating stars in the stargazing pool..."
