The Oregon Trail

The Oregon Trail

“The Oregon Trail” is a computer game originally developed in 1971 by Don Rawitsch, Bill Heinemann, and Paul Dillenberger, and published in 1974 by the Minnesota Educational Computing Consortium (MECC). The original game was designed to teach schoolchildren about the realities of pioneer life on the Oregon Trail in the 19th century. The player takes on the role of a wagon master who leads his group of settlers in 1848 from Independence, Missouri, to the Willamette Valley in Oregon via the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon.
