Story
Ardeth Bay addresses the player directly and says that they have unleashed an ancient evil fear from three millennia ago. The player then takes on the role of Rick O'Connell, who finds himself in the catacombs of Hamunaptra, making his way through the tunnels, killing thieves and taking any artifacts he can find. O'Connell then operates the opening mechanisms for the tunnel doors, finding more artifacts and more thieves to defeat. A new threat arrives in the form of scarabs, which are burned away with the torch O'Connell must light. Further into the catacombs, O'Connell realizes he has a bad feeling and climbs into a pit where a dried, raspy, inhuman voice screams in ancient Egyptian and mummies emerge from the ground that are even harder to kill than the thieves. After dispatching the mummies and escaping from the pit, O'Connell encounters more undead minions, dressed in blue and gold decorations, who are harder to kill than the mummies as they require three sword slashes. However, they are defeated and O'Connell encounters more tomb raiders before advancing further into the catacombs and finding a room with treasure pieces, which he takes before reaching another corridor full of mummies. Eventually, O'Connell reaches a sarcophagus, which is opened to reveal a glowing blue sword. O'Connell then leaves the chamber.
