The Binding of Isaac

The Binding of Isaac is a randomized action RPG shooter with strong roguelike elements. Players follow Isaac on his journey and find bizarre treasures that change Isaac's shape, give him superhuman abilities and allow him to fight against hordes of mysterious creatures, discover secrets and escape to safety.

Story

The plot of The Binding of Isaac is loosely based on the biblical story of the same name. Isaac, a child, and his mother live in a small house on a hill. Both happy and content, Isaac draws pictures and plays with his toys while his mother watches Christian programs on television. Then Isaac's mother hears "a voice from above" telling her that her son is corrupted by sin and needs to be saved. The voice asks her to remove all evil from Isaac in order to save him. His mother agrees and takes away his toys, drawings and even his clothes. The voice speaks to Isaac's mother again and says that Isaac must be separated from all evil in the world. Again, the mother agrees and locks Isaac in his room. Again the voice speaks to Isaac's mother. It says that she has acted well, but it questions her devotion and asks her to sacrifice her son. She agrees, gets a butcher knife from the kitchen and goes to Isaac's room. Isaac, looking through a large crack in his door, panics. He finds a trap door hidden under his carpet and jumps in just before his mother opens the room door. Isaac tapes the paper he drew to the wall, which becomes the title screen. During the game's loading points, Isaac is seen curling up in a ball and crying. His thoughts are visible and range from rejection by his mother, to humiliation by his classmates, to a scenario involving his own death. The game offers 13 endings, one after each big boss fight.
