Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

NOTE: This is the original 4-player arcade version, not the NES title. The player chooses one of the four Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. After Shredder kidnaps the Turtles’ friend, April O’Neil, and their mentor Splinter, they must give chase, rescue their comrades, and defeat the evil Shredder. The player selects one of the four Ninja Turtles: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael. Depending on the version of the game, characters are either selected at the start of the game or assigned via the control panel. After Shredder kidnaps the Turtles’ friend, April O’Neil, and their mentor Splinter, they must give chase, rescue their comrades, and defeat the evil Shredder. Up to four players (two in some versions) can take control of one of the Turtles. Donatello has slower attacks but a longer range, Michelangelo and Raphael have faster attacks but a shorter range, and Leonardo is a balanced Turtle with average range and speed. The 8-way joystick controls the turtle’s movements, the jump button makes them jump, and the attack button makes them strike forward with their weapon. Additionally, some combos are possible. The Turtles can throw Foot Soldiers over their heads, and pressing the jump and attack buttons together performs a special attack. Raphael rolls across the ground and finishes the attack with a kick, while the other Turtles perform a sweeping jump attack with their weapons. In certain areas, the Turtles can also push off the wall. Enemies can be defeated more quickly by flinging them against walls or solid objects. Many objects, such as traffic cones, parking meters, fire hydrants, and exploding oil drums, can be struck or damaged with attacks to help defeat nearby enemies. In Attract Mode, the game displayed the first part of the animated opening sequence along with a snippet of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme song. Most of the enemies the Turtles face are Foot Soldiers, all of whom are color-coded to indicate their attack patterns and preferred weapons. Some enemies, such as the standard purple-clad Foot Soldiers and the Roadkill Rodney robots, can restrict the Turtles’ movement and reduce their health, leaving the player vulnerable to attacks from other enemies. The game’s final bosses include Rocksteady and Bebop (initially one at a time in that order, later both together), Baxter Stockman, Granitor, General Traag, Krang, and Shredder himself.

Story

Although Splinter had defeated Shredder and Casey Jones tried to crush him in a garbage truck, Shredder’s titanium helmet saved him from certain death. He awoke on a garbage ship and drifted back to shore on a raft made of non-biodegradable Styrofoam cups. Once ashore, he began training stronger Foot Soldiers, but they alone were not enough. Shredder then traveled through the universe using his teleportation beam in search of stronger allies. He recruited a member of the Ultimate Galactic Sword, which resided in Sector Six of the Oead Star Zone, and on the ice planet Traglodoon, he found a bounty hunter named Tora. Together, Shredder, his minions, and his two new allies have been working to kidnap April O'Neil. Splinter has trained her well, and now it’s up to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to save her!
