Story

StepMania is a cross-platform rhythm video game and engine. Originally developed as a simulator of Konami's Dance Dance Revolution arcade series, it has since evolved into an extensible rhythm game engine that supports a variety of rhythm-based game types. The primary game type features the following gameplay: As the arrows roll up the screen, they hit a normally stationary row of target arrows. When this occurs, the player presses the corresponding arrows on his/her keyboard or dance mat. The moving arrows hit the targets in time with the song. The game is scored on how accurately the player can trigger the arrows in time with the song. StepMania allows for multiple input options. Special adapters can be used to connect console devices such as PS2 and Xbox controllers or dancepads to the computer. Alternatively, the keyboard can be used to type the rhythms with arrow or other keys.
