Sonic Wings 3
Ten different aircraft are available to choose from by default, some of which return from previous Aero Fighters games. Two more secret characters from previous Video System games can be unlocked by entering a code. The different characters can carry different amounts of power-ups (P) and bombs (B) before they are fully charged. Picking one up gives you 2,000 points, while a full power (F) gives you 10,000 points. Destroying large enemies on the ground, as well as buildings and other prominent points in the landscape, often unlocks the aforementioned powerups, as well as currency symbols that change depending on the character's nationality. The currency symbols are worth between 10,000 and 200 points each. If you collect the symbols at the top of the screen, you'll get the maximum, if you collect them more than halfway, the minimum. The game contains a total of 18 stages, eight of which are played in each of the game's two loops with a branching system. After you defeat the bosses of certain stages, a plane with two destructible wings will appear; which wing is destroyed first determines the next stage to be played. Stages 3 and 6 are always bonus stages; they have no bosses and contain either enemies that release lots of power-ups that can be collected for 2,000 points each, or a large number of non-shooting ground enemies that release money. The game also contains a number of secrets; the last two bosses are very rarely replaced by hidden bosses that also grant hidden endings. Some minor enemies sometimes show unusual behavior; for example, the turrets in the USA stage occasionally turn into a bust of Villiam from Aero Fighters. In two-player mode, players must use any two planes that are in the same row as each other on the character selection screen. During the game, if both players' sprites are exactly on top of each other, a powerful combined shot will be fired as long as neither player uses a bomb.
Story
After their supposed defeat, the evil alien forces launch a surprise attack on the Aero Fighters' base and destroy their planes. Unable to repel the attack, they have to use old World War II warplanes with strange modifications in a desperate fight for victory.
