Son Son
The game is a 2D sidescrolling platformer. The screen scrolls automatically and only stops to fight larger enemies. There are six continuous platforms on the screen with occasional small gaps. Sonson and Tonton automatically walk across these platforms. If you press up or down, they jump to the next platform. If you press left, they move slower than the screen scrolls, meaning they keep moving but at a reduced pace. Pressing right does the opposite - SonSon and TonTon move faster across the platforms than the screen scrolls. The duo has only one attack - the ability to fire energy blasts from their stalks. If you touch an enemy or an unfriendly projectile, you lose a life. If the player has any more lives, he/she returns to the screen on a cloud that makes him/her temporarily invincible. When the player presses the control stick in any direction, the cloud disappears and the character resumes his normal walking mode. The cloud eventually disappears by itself when the control stick is not used. Power-ups come in the form of various fruits that give points (with enough points, the player gets an extra life). When you collect certain fruits, all the enemies on the screen turn into fruits that bring points. When you walk across certain platforms, a bamboo shoot will randomly sprout, earning you lots of extra points. It is possible to play the game together with a partner, who takes the role of TonTon (who is called Zhu Wuneng in the original story).
