Shining Force
Shining Force is a turn-based tactical role-playing game. Battles take place in square squares, with each unit occupying 1 square. Units can belong to one of two sides: Allies (controlled by the player) or Enemies (controlled by the computer AI). Each unit can move up to a certain number of hexes on the battlefield, determined by its movement statistics. Depending on where it is in relation to enemies and allies, a unit can attack, cast spells, use an item, search (if it is near a treasure chest), or remain idle, which ends the unit's turn. Some orders, such as equipping or discarding items, do not count as actions, and the character's turn may continue. The order of moves is determined by the unit's skill points and a random value. Units can use offensive actions, such as physical attacks or offensive magic, only against units of the other side, and support actions, such as healing magic, status-increasing magic, and items, only against units of the same side.
Story
The game starts in the kingdom of Guardiana, in the land of Rune. Max, the protagonist, is sent on a mission to stop Darksol, who commands the hordes of Runefaust, from opening the Shining Path and reviving the Dark Dragon. Along the way, Max recruits a number of allies to join the Shining Force. Opposing the Shining Force are enemies like Kane and King Ramladu, both of whom have been corrupted by Darksol. Finally, Max forges the legendary Chaos Breaker and uses it to reach the Castle of the Ancients, where Darksol plans to resurrect the Dark Dragon.
