The game is more different from its predecessors, both in story and presentation. The heroes are now members of a ninja clan who must eliminate an evil emperor before he is released. For the first time, players can choose which character they want to play, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Two bosses that confront the player can also be playable after a certain chapter of the game, so players can re-select their character if they want.
