Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
In Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, players take on the role of Sakuna, a proud but lonely harvest goddess who has been banished to a dangerous island with a group of outcasts. Sakuna tames the island by defeating demons, using farm implements as weapons, and making extensive use of her "celestial scarf," a magical item that allows her to grab distant enemies and platforms. Along the way, she sets up shop in a mountain village that serves as her base for crafting weapons and preparing food. As a harvest goddess, she also grows rice by going through a detailed process that includes everything from planting to harvesting. Through this process, she can improve the harvest and hone her combat skills in each of the four seasons.
Story
Long ago, the pampered Princess Sakuna enjoyed a life of leisure in the Mihashira Capital among the gods and spirits of Yanato. But on the floating sky bridge that separates the immortal High Realm from the Lower Realm of mortals, a chance encounter with the human children (or, as they call themselves, humans) led to a series of misadventures. Unfortunately, this culminated in their banishment to the island of Hinoe, the so-called Island of Demons. The ruling deity, Lady Kamuhitsuki, charged Sakuna with securing the capital and driving out the hordes of demonic beasts that plague the island. And of course, as a goddess, she must also take care of the wayward children of the humans who stood by her side. But even a goddess must eat, and so begins the story of rice and ruin... Sakuna may have begun her story as a spoiled princess, but in the course of her journey she becomes the true successor to her exalted parents, the harvest goddess Lady Toyohana and the warrior god Lord Takeribi. As she explores the beautiful yet forbidding surroundings of Hinoe Island, she also finds a home in a mountain village and proves herself worthy of her title by harvesting rice and improving the lives of the people.
