Resident Evil

Resident Evil is a survival horror classic in which a group of Special Forces agents, known as S.T.A.R.S, fight hordes of zombies and various other mutants in a mysterious mansion, while trying to uncover the truth behind the terrible infection. The game environment consists of polygonal 3D characters placed over pre-rendered 2D backgrounds. The game therefore relies on pre-set camera angles to see the action, rather than a real-time camera as in most games. The game is credited with coining the term "survival horror" and popularizing the genre.

Story

When a series of bizarre murders occur on the outskirts of Raccoon City in the Midwest on July 24, 1998, the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. Team is assigned to investigate. After losing contact with Bravo Team, Alpha Team is sent to investigate their disappearance. Alpha Team finds Bravo Team's crashed helicopter and lands at the crash site, where they are suddenly attacked by a pack of monstrous dogs that kill one of the team members. After Alpha Team pilot Brad Vickers panics and takes off alone, the remaining team members (Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Albert Wesker and Barry Burton) are forced to seek refuge in a nearby abandoned mansion. It quickly becomes clear that this is not just any mansion, but a hellish place where undead roam the corridors and other horrors wait in the darkness to eat a few heads.
