Rage Racer

Rage Racer

Rage Racer is the third title in the Ridge Racer racing game series. For the first time in the series, Rage Racer introduces a brand-new, advanced single-player career system that uses credits that the player gets after winning races, which he can then use to buy or upgrade cars.

Story

Visually, the game takes a different approach than previous PlayStation titles. The game looks more realistic and has a darker color scheme that borrows a lot from the Ridge Racer series arcade game, Rave Racer. For the first time in the Ridge Racer series, Rage Racer introduces a brand new advanced single player career system that uses credits. Winning races earns the player credits, which can then be used to buy and upgrade cars. Races are divided into five classes, ranging from "Class 1" to "Class 5". The objective of the game is to earn money (credits, or "eg") that can be spent on new cars or on improving existing cars. To advance to the next class, the player must finish in the top three in all competitions in a class. The player can make three attempts in each class to finish in the top three of a race. If the player wins all three races in a class with the correct vehicle class (e.g., a Class 1 vehicle in Class 1), he/she will receive the gold trophy for that class. Otherwise, the player simply moves to the next class. Once the player has completed the five "Normal GP" events, the "Extra GP" is unlocked. This allows the player to race the same classes on inverted tracks. In addition to unlocking the Extra GP, the player will receive 999,999,999 in the Normal GP, for example - more than enough to buy all the cars and upgrade them to Class 5. Once you reach Class 5 in Extra GP, Class 6 is unlocked, along with the three "secret" cars. Although it is included in Extra GP, the races in Class 6 are run on the front tracks. There are only four opponents in Class 6, not eleven as in the other classes. There are four car manufacturers in Rage Racer. Each of the four manufacturers favors a different attribute (e.g. handling, acceleration, speed). All of the "standard" cars can be upgraded, with the cost rising sharply from one class to the next. This is the first game in the Ridge Racer series that allows the player to drive a truck, but only with a manual transmission.
