Power Drift

Power Drift

Power Drift is a kart racing game released by Sega in arcades in 1988. More technologically advanced than Sega's earlier 2.5D racing games like Hang-On (1985) and Out Run (1986), in Power Drift the entire world and track are made of sprites. Thanks to the Sega Y Board's improved hardware, individual sprites and the background can be rotated - even when scaled - making the graphics more dynamic. Designed and directed by Yu Suzuki, the game was a critical and commercial success when it was released in arcades. It was ported to various home computers in Europe by Activision in 1989, followed by a PC engine port released in Japan by Asmik Ace in 1990. It was not released on Sega consoles until the release of Sega Ages for the Sega Saturn in 1998.

Story

Have you ever wanted to drive a dune buggy on a variety of tracks at high speeds? Power Drift is an arcade racing game that will let you do just that. There are 5 tracks to choose from, each with 5 stages. The tracks range from cities, to deserts, to tracks over water. There are also 12 drivers to choose from, ranging from businessmen to skinheads to Mohicans. Your buggy has 2 gears, one high and one low. As soon as the traffic light turns green, you have to step on the gas pedal. You have to reach the third or higher place to get to the next stage. Be careful not to collide with other buggies or objects next to the road. Your buggy can take a beating, but a collision will slow you down. If you complete all 5 stages of a level, you will get a bonus level.
