Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Story

In the first case of the game, criminal defense lawyer Phoenix Wright successfully defends his childhood friend Larry Butz for murder in his first trial under Mia Fey's supervision. However, in the second case of the game, Mia is murdered because she knew about a corporate extortion scheme, and her younger sister Maya Fey is accused of the crime because her name was found on a piece of evidence. While defending her, Phoenix reacquaints himself with another childhood friend, Miles Edgeworth, who is the prosecutor assigned to Maya's case and has established himself as a "genius" of the criminal justice system. Maya is found not guilty of the crime and becomes Phoenix's assistant on more cases. She offers her channeling ability as the "spirit medium" of the village of Kurain to bring the spirit of Mia to her aid at critical moments. Phoenix and Edgeworth find that while they retain their friendship from their youth, they continue to antagonize each other in the courtroom. In the third case, Phoenix and Maya investigate the murder of a famous actor, and in the fourth case, Edgeworth is accused of murder and Phoenix defends him. It turns out that Edgeworth was framed by his old mentor, Manfred von Karma. Several years earlier, Manfred von Karma had shot Edgeworth's father, a criminal defense attorney, after he ruined Manfred's spotless record, leading Edgeworth to believe he had shot his own father. Phoenix succeeds in exposing Manfred's cover-up and securing a "not guilty" verdict for Edgeworth. After the case, Edgeworth thinks about taking time off from his post to reflect on the events, while Maya announces that she will go back to her home in Kurain Village to work out. In the fifth case, added for the Nintendo DS, iOS and Wii versions, Ema enlists Skye Wright's help to defend her older sister Lana, who is on trial for murder aggravated by a second killing of the same apparent victim in a different building at the same time. With the help of Emma's scientific help with evidence and Edgeworth's surprising help with the prosecution, Phoenix is able to discover that Lana Skye was blackmailed by police chief Damon Gant into covering up a murder she thought Ema had committed several years earlier. It turns out that Gant himself committed the murder and blamed Ema. Although Lana is acquitted of the murder charge, she voluntarily goes to prison because she was an accomplice; Ema takes her leave to go to Europe and study forensics.
