Story

To the north lie the Stolen Lands, a region that has been fought over for centuries. Hundreds of kingdoms have risen and fallen in these lands, and now it's time for you to build an empire of your own! To do so, you must survive the harsh wilderness and the threat of rival nations... and also the threats to your own court. Pathfinder: Kingmaker is based on the award-winning Pathfinder adventure path of the same name by Paizo. You don't have to know the story, of course, but if you do, you'll encounter characters you know and love, as well as a host of brand-new events, companions, allies, and threats that expand and enhance the original adventure path. With the help of Paizo and their writers, the story and quests have been expanded by RPG author Chris Avellone and the Owlcat team, adding even more adventure to the already rich history of Stolen Lands. While Pathfinder: Kingmaker is a single-player game, you won't be adventuring alone. "Kingmaker" features a variety of companions and NPCs, including iconic characters from the Pathfinder setting itself. You'll have to decide who to trust and who to watch out for, because each companion has a different agenda, a different direction, and different goals than you. Your journey will become their journey, and you'll help shape their lives, both in the moment and in the future. Your Kingdom We chose to adapt the Kingmaker adventure path because it includes a variety of open-world mechanics that allow players to experience the story at their own pace as they explore the Stolen Lands, which will challenge you both as an adventurer and as a ruler. Most importantly, the game will allow you to claim these lands for yourself and build your own kingdom in the wilderness. While classic dungeon crawling and exploration are at the heart of this adventure, diplomacy, politics and kingdom development are also part of the challenge. Choose your allies well and keep them close as you explore ancient tombs and ruins - and as you deal with politics in your own court. You'll find that building a kingdom isn't just about building a fortress: Your kingdom is a reflection of your character and your choices during the game. It's a living entity shaped by your alignment, your allies, and your ability to lead your people. Not only can your kingdom expand as you open up new territories and build new cities and towns, but your capital also changes physically depending on the choices you make, the policies you pursue, and who you ally with.
