Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat is a fighting game from 2011 that was developed by NetherRealm Studios. It is the ninth installment in the Mortal Kombat series and a soft reboot of the series. Although it begins during the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, the storyline retroactively harks back to the earliest days of the Mortal Kombat series: the events of the first three games. The plot follows Raiden, the divine protector of Earth, as he attempts to change the outcome of the Armageddon events by contacting his former self.

Story

The story retells the events of the first three games in a new timeline, where Raiden receives a message from himself in the primordial future after the Battle of Armageddon has taken place and Shao Kahn has become the supreme leader of all realms. Because of this storyline, the characters and scenarios are the classic ones, bringing the old into the new and triggering a new conflict.
