Midtown Madness
Midtown Madness (also known as Midtown Madness: Chicago Edition) is a racing game developed by Angel Studios (now Rockstar San Diego) for Windows and published by Microsoft. The demo version was released as a download on May 1, 1999 and the finished game appeared towards the end of May 1999.[1] Two sequels followed: Midtown Madness 2 was released in September 2000 and Midtown Madness 3 in June 2003 for the Xbox. The game is set in Chicago and the objective is to win street races and get new cars. Unlike racing games that limit the player to one race track, Midtown Madness features an open world recreation of Chicago. This environment is said to offer "an unprecedented level of freedom while driving around a virtual city."[2] The game is also designed to give the player the freedom to explore the city. Players can explore the city in one of several modes and determine the weather and traffic conditions for each race. The game supports multiplayer racing over a local network or the Internet. The game received generally positive reviews from gaming websites[3].
