In the year 3017, when Herras Ragen was 12 years old, his father Colonel Joseph T. Ragen, a soldier in the House Davion army, was working to infiltrate and destroy a rogue mercenary cartel called the Dark Wing Lance. But he was discovered and the Dark Wing took their revenge: somehow they had found out where the Ragen family's residence was located. Under the cover of night, they attacked and killed everyone. Only young Herras, who was at a friend's house at the time of the massacre, survived. What he didn't know was that the Darkwing had agreed to split up for ten years after the attack and maintain absolute secrecy before reuniting and continuing their nefarious operations. Now, in the year 3027, that time has expired. Herras, now a young man, has spent the last decade waiting for his chance to exact revenge. As a mercenary operating out of the planet Galatea, with a light mech in the hangar and 50,000 C-bills in the bank, he accepts any mission that brings him closer to his family's killers.
