Story

The FedCom Civil War grips Kentares IV after William Dresari, a nephew of famed clan war hero Duke Eric Dresari, betrays the family and launches a surprise attack by Steiner forces on the Dresari royal palace. William seizes the throne for himself under the Lyran Alliance banner of Katherine "Katrina" Steiner-Davion and is responsible for the destruction of Victor Steiner-Davion's loyalists. The betrayal costs Eric Dresari and most of the royal family their lives. When Eric's son Ian Dresari learns of the coup, he returns home and meets with his uncle Sir Peter Dresari on the moon of Kentares to launch a guerrilla campaign to retake Kentares IV from the Steiner loyalists. Ian fights alongside MechWarriors Casey Nolan, Jen McQuarrie and Jules Gonzales and their commander Elise Rathburn in various missions. The Resistance leaves its base on the moon and sets up camp for the first time in the Arctic regions of Kentare. During this campaign, Ian's uncle Peter is assassinated by Duncan Burke, a high-ranking officer in Katrina's forces. Ian and the rest of the resistance are devastated by the loss of his uncle and contemplate whether or not to continue the fight for Kentarian freedom. They decide to continue and manage to capture a satellite network from House Steiner. The rebel group moves to the mountains. After destroying a disabled but heavily guarded Steiner DropShip, Ian and the resistance move to the Hadra Peninsula, a remote desert region. Rumors of an abandoned prison camp reach the Resistance and efforts are made to locate and liberate the camp in order to recruit more personnel to the Resistance cause. Along the way, Ian is shocked to discover that one member of his family survived Steiner's siege of the Dresari Palace: his sister Joanna. After a brief reunion, Ian and Joanna are separated again as the resistance plans to mobilize its forces to give Steiner a fight. In Hadra, Ian kills James Kulin, who was in charge of suppressing the civilian population of Kentares and personally ordered the execution of Ian and Joanna's family. They take a brief detour to save a coastal town called Vale after Steiner threatens to bomb the town for allegedly having ties to the Resistance. Not only does the resistance save the population, but Ian manages to personally defeat his uncle's killer, Duncan Burke, in a heated duel. As they advance into the cities, the fighting becomes more heated and the Resistance's casualties mount. Joanna informs Ian about an old weapons cache hidden somewhere in the city. It contains enough equipment for four heavy lances of 'Mechs - valuable for the attack on the Dresari Palace, which is now the headquarters of the Steiner occupation. But before the search for the hideout can begin, Joanna and her lance are ambushed by the Steiner, leaving her seriously injured and in mortal danger. Ian must make a choice: Either he saves his sister from certain death or he secures the weapons cache for an attack on the Dresari palace. No matter what the player decides, Ian and the resistance will fight one last time against House Steiner and finally put an end to the war. But the fight isn't over for Ian, because William shows up in a modified Daishi and challenges Ian to a duel. Ian defeats William and finally frees the planet from Steiner's grip. Depending on the player's decision in the penultimate mission, either Joanna or Ian ascends the throne as Duke or Duchess.
