MechAssault

MechAssault was the first BattleMech video game released for the Xbox. MechAssault was developed by Day 1 Studios and published by Microsoft when Denny Thorley of Day 1 Studios approached Jon Kimmich of Microsoft to develop a BattleTech game designed from the ground up for the console.[1] "MechAssault" was released in November 2002. A sequel, MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf, was released on December 28, 2004. Both games are set in the fictional world of BattleTech

Story

MechAssault is set in the BattleTech universe, a science fiction universe that often involves battles between heavily armed and armored machines controlled by humans, called BattleMechs. The plot of the game revolves around an inhabited planet called Helios, which is under the rule of the Inner Sphere, a powerful coalition of hostile factions that controls large parts of space. The player is a BattleMech pilot (simply called "Captain" or "MechWarrior" in the game) working for an elite mercenary organization called Wolf's Dragoons. The player's ship is hired to investigate the disruption of communications with the planet Helios. The Dragoons' ship, the Icarus, arrives at the planet and is shot down as it enters the atmosphere, after which the ship crash lands on the surface of Helios. Later, the player learns that a renegade, technology-believing sect called the Word of Blake has conquered Helios and is ruled by an iron-fisted fanatic named Commander Strader. The game follows the player as, under the command of elite officer Major Natalia and with the assistance of inept technician Lieutenant Foster, he battles the cult's military forces, liberates the planet from Word of Blake rule and assassinates Commander Strader.
