For the first time in the series, boss battles storm the party, challenging players to compete against each other to defeat a common enemy. Plus, players now travel across stages in a vehicle to achieve a common goal - overcome obstacles, battle bosses and collect mini stars stolen by Bowser and his minions. With 80 new mini-games, adventurous new stages and all-new gameplay options that combine cooperative and competitive action for up to four players*, Mario Party 9 is the perfect way to get the party started. For the first time in the Mario Party series, each stage culminates in a boss battle. Together, players must join forces to defeat classic enemies like Bowser and King Boo, while playing competitively to improve their own score. -Another first in the series is that players travel together across stages in special vehicles. Players take turns captaining the vehicle, using dice blocks to move the group forward in hopes of landing on lucky squares. The vehicles help simplify the game and get all players involved in the action. -Unique captain events on each stage give players a new way to change the game. -In Mario Party 9, each themed stage has a clear destination point, but multiple paths along the way, so no two games will play out the same. From Toad Road to Boo's Horror Castle, players will encounter a variety of familiar elements from the Mario franchise in new environments that can be played alone or with friends. -Includes 80 outrageous new mini-games in which players bake pizzas, escape from haunted houses, and race snowmobiles. -Don't have time to play through an entire stage? With the new mini-game modes, players can enjoy the action in smaller chunks of time. They can improve their skills in any mini-game in Free Play mode or try the Extras mode, which includes Goomba Bowling and the Castle Clearout puzzle game.
