Lost in Shadow

Lost in Shadow

"Lost in Shadow" (released as "A Shadow's Tale" in Europe/Australia and as "Kage no Tou" in Japan) is a puzzle-platforming video game developed by Hudson Soft for Nintendo's Wii console. It was released in Japan in July 2010, in Australia and Europe in October 2010 and in North America in January 2011. In 2016, it was also released for the Wii U in the Nintendo eShop. Lost in Shadow takes place largely in the background of the game environment. The player controls the shadow of a boy who must climb the shadows of a tall tower teeming with puzzles and enemies. He is accompanied by a sylph that can change the direction of the light sources in the foreground, altering the orientation of the shadows he climbs. There are moments in the game where the boy can materialize in the three-dimensional world and briefly interact with the objects themselves, rather than just their shadows.

Story

The game begins with a boy who is trapped and seemingly floating in the air. A stranger comes in and strikes the boy with a strange looking sword. Strangely, this does not harm the boy, but it severs the connection between him and his shadow, which the stranger casts from the tower. In the story, the player takes on the role of the shadow as it makes its way through the tower to the top. During this journey, the player must remain in the shadowy areas and for the most part can only interact with the shadows of things and not with the things themselves. The player is assisted in this task by "Spangle", a sylph that can sometimes change the angle of light - altering the shadows of objects and making impossible jumps possible and unreachable objects accessible.
