The year is 1962 and NASA is trying to put a man on the moon. In a remote corner of Siberia, a Soviet cosmonaut is headed in the other direction. Comrade Ivan Ivanovich is dropped off in his Little Orpheus exploration capsule in an extinct volcano to explore the center of the Earth. Promptly he disappears. Three years later, he reappears, claiming to have saved the world. He has also lost the atomic bomb that powered the Little Orpheus. He is taken to a top-secret bunker deep under the Ural Mountains to be questioned by the fearsome General Yurkovoi, a man so scary that even Stalin won't buy him a drink. The general rolls up his sleeves, looks at Ivan with a steely gaze and says, "So...where have you been, comrade? And where's my bomb?" Ivan looks him straight in the eye and says, "Well, General, you may not believe what happened to me, but I'll do my best. Because it happened this way..."
