Laser Squad

Laser Squad is a turn-based tactical war game in which the player completes objectives such as rescue or recovery operations or simply eliminates all enemies by using cover, squad-level military tactics and the careful use of weapons. Squad team members move around the map individually, performing actions such as moving, turning, shooting, picking up, etc., which consume the unit's action points. Heavier units tire more easily and may need to rest to avoid running out of action points more quickly in subsequent turns. Morale also plays a role: a unit that witnesses the death of its comrades can panic and escape the player's control. Including the expansion pack, there are a total of seven scenarios, each with its own difficulty settings and troop assignments Laser Squad originally shipped with five mission scenarios. An expansion pack was released for the 8-bit versions, which included two more scenarios. Reactions from gaming magazines were positive, earning the game a high rating and several awards. The game's legacy can be seen in other titles such as the X-COM series, in particular the highly acclaimed UFO: Enemy Unknown, which was also developed by Julian Gollop and was originally intended as a sequel to Laser Squad.
