Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame
Karmaflow is a unique twist on the traditional gaming experience. In Karmaflow, the story of the game is presented entirely in the form of a rock opera, sung by some of the most talented rock voices in the world. Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame is a puzzle platformer with music performed by various musicians. Simone Simons (Epica), Dani Filth (Cradle of Filth), Marc Hudson (Dragonforce), Tony Kakko (Sonata Artica) and Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) have lent their vocal talents to Karmaflow, while the Metropole Orkest (the world's largest Grammy-winning professional pop and jazz orchestra) has contributed to the game's music. Karmaflow's aesthetic is inspired by games such as the Zelda series, Journey and the dark tone of Darksiders. The first world starts off rather gloomy and mysterious, while the third world contains a lot of crimson and its character design is directly influenced by the culture and legends of the Tibetan people. The sung narrative itself will have real depth and will deal with fascinating themes such as balance and contradictions.
Story
You take on the role of the karma guardian, the protector of karma, the life-giving force in the worlds. You travel between the different worlds and solve the conflicts of the guardians. These guardians originally had the task of maintaining the flow of karma in the worlds and preserving the balance in the multiverse. You'll meet these guardians (voiced by the aforementioned rock artists) and learn their side of each conflict. Through puzzles and platforming, you'll have to bring the long-lost flow of karma back to these worlds to dispel the unbalanced karma that has led to the destruction of the guardian spirits of these universes. Since it is the job of the karma guardian to listen to both sides, you decide who you want to support and thus determine the fate of this world. The way players resolve the conflict on a world simultaneously influences the overarching story and the outcome of the game. Karmaflow stands out from other contemporary titles in many ways, the most obvious being the massive emphasis on music. While other video games treat the sound and music design as nothing more than a nice add-on feature, the music in Karmaflow is everything that makes up the gaming experience. The persistent rock opera song takes players on an epic journey that changes depending on their choices, which in turn affects the sound of the music they hear. Basecamp Games will release its first title "Karmaflow: The Rock Opera Videogame" on PC and MAC on January 16, 2015.
