Hegemony III: Clash of the Ancients
Centuries before Caesar, Alexander, and Philip, the forested hills and rocky coasts of ancient Italy lured cultures from across the Mediterranean with the promise of wealth and prosperity. Bronze-clad hoplites from the powerful Greek city-states sailed across the Adriatic to establish bridgeheads of Hellenic culture among the native Italic hill tribes, while aggressive Gallic skirmish groups headed south across the Alps in search of fertile new land. And on the marshy banks of the Tiber, a small emerging city called Rome struggles for its independence from the ruling Etruscan confederacy. But only one faction can rise to become the greatest empire the Mediterranean has ever seen. Will Rome fulfill its destiny to dominate the ancient world, or will history be rewritten to establish a new Etruscan, Gallic or Greek hegemony? Command your army in a time when weapons and tactics evolve with each conflict. Tribal warriors must adopt their enemies' hoplon shields to defend against the invading Greeks, while early Roman legions learn to adapt the time-honored phalanx to survive the Gallic onslaught.
