Heart of Darkness

Story

The game follows Andy, a kid who hates his abusive teacher, loves his dog Whiskey and suffers from nyctophobia (fear of the dark). One day, Andy and Whiskey go to the park. While they are there, a solar eclipse takes place. During the eclipse, Whiskey is kidnapped by an invisible creature. Andy then rushes to his tree house where he keeps his inventions and jumps into a spaceship to find Whiskey. He flies off and finds himself in the Darklands, part of the Heart of Darkness. The Darklands are inhabited by creatures of the night and ruled by an evil sorcerer known as the Master of Darkness. Andy must overcome himself to save Whiskey and find a way home. Andy's spaceship collides with a winged shadow creature and crashes in a ravine on the edge of the Darklands. Here, his weapon is eaten by a giant monster. Andy manages to escape into the swamps where, unarmed, he finds himself in even greater danger. Meanwhile, the Master of Darkness is berating his servant when a winged shadow appears with a sack of whiskey. Angered by the mistake (the shadow was supposed to catch Andy), the Master of Darkness kills the shadow and takes out his anger on his servant by throwing him against a spiked wall. However, the monster that swallowed Andy's weapon appears, accidentally saves the servant and explains why Andy is in the Darklands. The Master of Darkness then orders his minions to search the Darklands for him. Deep in the swamp, Andy rescues a winged creature named Amigo, who tries to carry him to his home island, but is dazed by a fireball cast by a winged shadow, causing Andy to fall into a lake. At the bottom of the lake, Andy comes across a magical stone that gives him the power to manipulate plants and destroy enemies. After resurfacing, Andy is once again rescued by Amigo, who takes him back to his home and introduces him to his people. Andy wins their approval by creating an apple tree for them. The Amigos agree to hide Andy in their village, but the shadows attack and destroy the village by nightfall. Andy, however, manages to escape. After reuniting with the Amigos, Andy witnesses an Amigo fall to the evil ground and become a winged shadow upon contact. Andy persuades the Amigos to gain the power of the magic stone and fight the Master of Darkness. With their newfound powers, the Amigos help Andy penetrate the Master of Darkness' lair. There Andy is captured and thrown into a cell with Whiskey, but he manages to escape and free Whiskey. Meanwhile, the minions of the Master of Darkness have found the magic stone and take it to the Master, who destroys it, taking away Andy and the Amigos' powers. Once again unarmed, Andy can only escape from the shadows. While escaping, he accidentally falls into a hole and lands on the giant monster, which immediately devours Andy. However, he manages to escape by taking his gun out of the monster's stomach and blasting it in two from the inside. He then meets the servant and forces him to help him defeat the Master of Darkness and find Whiskey. The servant explains to Andy that he can only defeat the Master of Darkness if he throws the finished magic stone into the dark portal. Andy then searches for the fragments of the stone to reshape it. He manages to find all but one piece, which is on the bridge near the portal. While Andy is fighting his way to the bridge, the servant betrays Andy by pushing Whiskey into the portal. After fighting countless shadows and dodging several blasts of fire from the Master of Darkness, Andy makes it to the bridge and gets the last piece. The Amigos tie up the servant and drop the rock onto the bridge, shattering the servant. Andy ignores the Master of Darkness's claim that everyone will be killed if he does this, and ties up the last piece of the rock, which then falls into the portal, which begins to destroy the castle and the platform on which the Master of Darkness is floating. He then falls into the portal, but manages to take Andy with him. They find themselves in the main area of the Heart of Darkness, where they fight. Andy wins the fight and then hears a door open and sees red eyes coming towards him. He goes to strike, but Andy's mother lights up and reveals to him that the eyes are Whiskey and that they are in Andy's tree house... the whole thing was just Andy's imagination. Andy's mother invites them to dinner. After being kissed goodnight by his mother, Andy mocks Whiskey's fear of the dark a bit and then turns off the nightlight to show that he has overcome his fear of the dark thanks to his fantasy journey. The scene then shows the Amigos finding the wreckage of Andy's ship, where the servant is also tied up and being harassed, showing that Andy's adventure was not imaginary.
