Gradius

One of the distinctive features of the Gradius series is the use of an "energy meter". The energy meter is powered by a power-up item whose purpose is to move a marker to the next power-up on the energy meter when it is collected. When a power-up that the player wants is marked, he or she can activate it, which also resets the marker.
