Gothic 3
Gothic 3 is a fantasy role-playing game for Windows from the German game developer Piranha Bytes. It is the sequel to Gothic II. Although the game is available in English, the original version is in German. The game was released in the European Union on October 13, 2006 and has been available in North America since November 20, 2006. The North American version contains two patches that were released after the original British edition. A Collector's Edition was also released, which contains additional collector's material. JoWooD released a stand-alone expansion titled Gothic 3: Forsaken Gods on November 21, 2008.
Story
The third part starts with the nameless hero and his friends sailing to a new continent overrun by orcs and arriving in Myrtana, the central region of the continent. The hero has lost all his belongings from the previous game when his ship is stolen while he is on land with Milten, Diego, Gorn and Lester. Presumably, this is the origin of the orc invasion launched on Khorinis in the second chapter. These areas have no physical connection to Khorinis or the ruins of the penal colony. In these mountainous forests, the orcs have enslaved the human kingdom. Only a few free humans live in the almost uninhabitable icy northern lands of Nordmar and the southern desert of Varant. The hero must decide whether to join the rebellion and remain loyal to the deposed human king, serve the orcish usurpers in their quest to overthrow the last remaining human stronghold, or choose a path that serves his own ends. Throughout the story, he is accompanied by a number of NPCs, some of whom are old friends. While friends from the previous title reappear in this chapter (Xardas, Diego, Milten, Gorn, Lester, Lee and Vatras), two new main characters are also introduced: King Rhobar the Second (who was ultimately responsible for sending the Nameless Hero to the Penal Colony in the first game) and Zuben. The king has a strong past as a bold leader, but now he is on the verge of defeat; his fame is sinking. Zuben leads the Hashishin, who live in the southern region of Varant.
