GoldenEye: Rogue Agent
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is a first-person shooter video game developed by EA LA and published by Electronic Arts. The player takes on the role of former MI6 agent Jack Hunter, who is recruited by Auric Goldfinger (a member of a powerful, unnamed criminal organization based on Ian Fleming's SPECTRE) to assassinate his rival, Dr. No. Several other characters from the Bond series appear in the game, including Pussy Galore, Oddjob, Xenia Onatopp and Francisco Scaramanga. Despite its name and its belonging to the James Bond universe, the game has no relation to the 1995 movie or the 1997 video game of the same name. In this environment, the game's protagonist gets the name "GoldenEye" after losing his eye and getting a golden cybernetic replacement.
Story
At the beginning of the game, a recording of M (head of MI6) reveals that: "Three years ago, during a mission, the agent was seriously wounded in an encounter with Dr. No and subsequently lost his right eye. In revenge, he often becomes violent and brutal and is no longer fit for duty in MI6." According to the report, Dr. No shot the agent in his right eye during a mission. Three years after the incident in which the agent lost his right eye, he is tested in a holographic simulation in which he is to work with 007 to stop Auric Goldfinger, a member of a criminal organization, from detonating a suitcase bomb at Fort Knox. He fails the test and is held directly responsible for the "death" of 007. He is charged with "reckless brutality" and dismissed from MI6. As he leaves headquarters, he sees himself reading an offer from Goldfinger to join his organization. The agent accepts Goldfinger's offer and is recruited as his enforcer. He meets with him at Auric Enterprises, where Goldfinger's scientists have developed a weapon known as OMEN (Organic Mass Energy Neutralizer), which releases energy that can split organic matter at a near-atomic level, causing it to disintegrate. For his mission to eliminate Dr. No, another associate of the criminal organization that has declared war on Goldfinger's branch, he receives a gold-colored cybernetic eye created by Francisco Scaramanga, another associate of Goldfinger's organization (hence his codename "GoldenEye"). Scaramanga offers upgrades to the eye, starting with MRI vision. In Hong Kong, GoldenEye must get a sniper rifle to take out Dr. No with the EM hack. At Midas Casino, GoldenEye must get to the vault (which can be found in multiplayer) to protect the OMEN with the magnetic polarity shield. At Hoover Dam, GoldenEye must destroy the dam and kill Xenia Onatopp. GoldenEye also throws Oddjob over a railing into a pit in Hoover Dam after he betrays and attacks GoldenEye for unknown reasons. In The Octopus, GoldenEye must download the navigational coordinates to Crab Key (Dr. No's base) using the force field of his golden eye. During their duel, GoldenEye uses his mechanical eye to sabotage the island's nuclear reactor, electrocuting Dr. No. After No's death, Goldfinger contacts GoldenEye and tells him that he considers him too dangerous to be kept alive, and that he had previously contacted GoldenEye and instructed him to activate a program that would shut down the Lair's defense network. Goldfinger reveals to him that he plans to take over the Lair, leaving GoldenEye to die in the impending meltdown. However, GoldenEye manages to escape in Dr. No's Osprey before the reactor overloads and the island is destroyed in a huge explosion. GoldenEye returns to the hideout to confront Goldfinger. Pussy Galore meets GoldenEye and informs him that Goldfinger has used the OMEN to take out most of the camp's guards and take control of the camp. Scaramanga supplies the mechanical eye with a computer virus that he can use to overload the OMEN. GoldenEye fights his way through the lair, implanting the computer virus as he goes, until he finally reaches the area where Goldfinger and the OMEN are located. Goldfinger locks GoldenEye in a chamber where he claims there will soon be no oxygen. The computer virus then activates the OMEN and explodes it in a burst of energy, killing Goldfinger and his troops. GoldenEye and Galore leave the hideout aboard Galore's helicopter. Scaramanga and Number One (Ernst Stavro Blofeld) later discuss what to do with GoldenEye and decide to just see what he does next before moving on.
