Freeway

Freeway

Freeway is a video game developed by David Crane for the Atari 2600 video game console. It was published by Activision in 1981. One or two players control chickens that have to run across a ten-lane highway full of traffic to get to the other side. Each time a chicken crosses the road, the player receives a point. If a chicken is hit by a car, it is either pushed back slightly or pushed to the bottom of the screen, depending on which difficulty the switch is set to. In a two-player game, the player who scores the most points in the allotted two minutes and sixteen seconds wins. The chickens may only move up or down. A clucking sound can be heard when a chicken is hit by a car. Comparisons are often drawn with Frogger, which also involves crossing a road full of moving cars. The similarities boosted sales when Frogger was popular in the arcades and a home version was not yet available. Freeway was made available for the Xbox 360 console and Windows-based PCs via Microsoft's Game Room service on August 18, 2010.
