The adventures of Freddy Pharkas, an apothecary living in 19th century Coarsegold, where he has moved to cover up his past as a former gunslinger who quit when his ear was shot off by a rival. When a series of strange events and a pack of savage outlaws come to town and threaten to drive everyone away, Freddy must once again take up arms and defend the town and the woman he loves.
