F-Zero GX
F-Zero GX is the fourth installment in the F-Zero series and the successor to F-Zero X. The game continues the difficult high-speed racing style of the series, keeping the basic gameplay and control system of the Nintendo 64 title. The emphasis is on memorizing tracks and reflexes, which is very helpful in mastering the game. GX introduces a "story mode" element, in which the player follows in Captain Falcon's footsteps and completes various missions in nine chapters.
Story
The story begins with Black Shadow driving down a highway after losing a Grand Prix. Death catches up with him and gives him one more chance, but he says that this is the only other chance he gets. In the story mode of F-Zero GX, Falcon trains for the Grand Prix, races against his rival Samurai Goroh in a desert canyon, and is forced to participate in a race dressed as a "Famicom" (a reference to Nintendo's first home console). After winning the race, Falcon notices on the news that Black Shadow is attacking Lightning's territory. Falcon sets out to stop him, but is stopped by a group of thugs led by Michael Chain. After tangling with Chain's gang, Falcon enters a facility to rescue Jody Summer. He narrowly escapes as the core was overloaded and exploded, after which the facility went into lockdown. After Jody is safe, he confronts Black Shadow. The evil ruler ties up Falcon with the help of Blood Falcon and locks him in his vehicle. He straps a bomb to the Blue Falcon that explodes when the Blue Falcon drives too slowly. Falcon manages to survive by driving the vehicle off an unfinished road directly under a crane, defusing the bomb. Later, Falcon participated in the Grand Prix, from which he emerged victorious. After receiving the champion's belt, he witnessed Black Shadow being punished by his master Deathborn for his incompetence. Deathborn challenges Falcon to a duel for the possession of both belts. Before this race takes place, Deathborn reveals his plan to take over the universe. He reveals that the energies of light and darkness are pooled in each belt, and that when combined, they represent an ultimate power that will transform him into a god-like being capable of laying waste to Falcon's galaxy in an instant. Falcon vows to hunt him down. Falcon keeps his word, and the Deathborn seemingly dies. Both belts unite into one, and Falcon vows to keep winning to protect the belt from the forces of evil. At his workshop, Falcon is greeted by the creators. Falcon finds out that the creators are behind everything, although they don't elaborate on their motives. They challenge Falcon to a race in which, if they win, they will rip out Falcon's soul and turn it into their creation, meaning he would replace the Deathborn. Falcon defeats even them. Screaming, the creators leave, but it is unclear if they actually die or let Falcon go to honor his victory (but no less upset). Falcon then removes his helmet and leaves the room, where the credits and an exclusive theme song begin to play. (The camera pans at a downward angle, so Falcon's face is not clearly visible. Only part of the back of his head is partially visible).
