DuckTales: The Quest for Gold

DuckTales: The Quest for Gold

A strategy game to make money. Become MacDuck, the richest duck in the world. Your goal in this game looks simple: Make money. But to achieve that, you'll have to manage your money, invest it well and, of course, search for treasures with your animated friends. Versions: - Amiga/DOS has copy protection in the form of a unique password system. When the game boots up, you'll have to use a key script (which you'll find in the game manual) to translate the symbols on the screen. If you fail to do this, the game will identify you as a Beagle Boy intruder and send the user back to the DOS prompt to try again or shut down the PC on the Amiga version. There is no way to play the game without decrypting the code. At least in the Amiga version of the game, a flying saucer is rarely seen during the flight sequence. The condition that triggers the event is not known. - A version of this game was advertised for the ZX Spectrum, but later discontinued. - Although marketing materials exist for an Apple II port, there is no evidence that this version was ever released or sold.

Story

The game begins with Flintheart Glomgold coming to Scrooge McDuck's office and challenging him to see who is the richest duck in the world.[1] The player takes on the role of Scrooge and then has 30 days to collect treasures from around the world. Scrooge is assisted by his great-nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and the pilot Launchpad McQuack. Flying to different destinations is one of the many different sequences in the game. Many of these destinations are fictional or fanciful, their names are often puns on real places, and some have been featured in episodes of the series. Some also exist in the real world, such as Carlsbad Caverns. In the flight sequences, to reach the destination, the Beagle Boys try to hinder the player with methods like dropping pianos. When the plane crashes, the player loses money and has to wait a few days for Gyro Gearloose to repair the plane. Alternatively, the player can find the rare mineral Bombastium, which Gyro can use to create a matter transfer unit. This eliminates the need to travel by plane, and thus the risk of crashing and losing time and money; the downside is that the matter transfer unit sometimes fails and sends the player to the wrong destination. Once at the destination, the player must play through a specific scenario to reach the treasure. The four different scenarios are evenly distributed among the many destinations and are typical of the environment. Some of these scenarios, namely the mountain and the jungle, are platform-based levels in which the player plays as Huey (later Dewey and Louie if the player fails on the first attempt). Other levels include the cave, a maze the player must navigate, and the wildlife preserve where Webby Vanderquack photographs animals. The pictures, especially those of rare animals like pink elephants, bring the player similar rewards to the treasure chests in the other levels. The photo levels are fairly easy to play, since there are no real obstacles.
