Double Dragon

Double Dragon

Double Dragon is a beat 'em up video game from 1987 that was developed by Technōs Japan and distributed by Taito for arcades in Asia, North America and Europe. It is the first title in the Double Dragon series. The player character has a repertoire of martial arts techniques at his disposal, which he can perform individually or in combination using the joystick and the three action buttons (kick, jump and punch). The techniques range from simple punches and kicks to more complicated maneuvers such as hair tricks and elbow strikes. If you are playing with another player, you can help the other player by grabbing your partner's opponent from behind. Be careful when doing this, however, as some opponents can do the same to players. The player starts the game with a certain number of extra lives and a life meter that decreases when he/she is hit. If the life meter runs out or the time limit reaches zero, the player loses a life. There is a small selection of enemy characters that the player will encounter during the course of the game. Some enemies carry melee weapons that can be knocked out of their hands and picked up to attack them. Available weapons include baseball bats, whips, throwing knives and dynamite; you can also find rocks, oil drums and crates in certain locations. The game is divided into four stages or "missions" consisting of a city slum, a factory, the woods and the gang's hideout. The game usually ends when a single player defeats the final boss alone. However, if two players complete the game together, they must fight each other to see who will win Marian's affections.

Story

The player takes control of martial artist Billy Lee or his twin brother Jimmy (also known as Hammer and Spike in the additional materials for the American arcade version), who fight their way into the Black Warriors gang's territory to save their mutual love Marian.
