Donkey Kong Country

Donkey Kong Country is a side-scrolling platformer by the British developer Rare from 1994. It stood out for its revolutionary pre-rendered 3D graphics, which gave the game a very special look compared to most other console games of the time. The two playable characters in the game are the titular character Donkey Kong and his nephew Diddy Kong. Together they swing, climb, jump, swim, ride bikes, ride animals and blast out of barrels to retrieve their stolen bannanas from the evil King K. Rool and his Kremling army. The adventure will take you through a variety of different environments and levels that will keep changing the gameplay. Donkey Kong Country also offers a lot of opportunities for exploration, since almost every level has a large number of collectibles, shortcuts and hidden bonus areas.

Story

On a dark and stormy night on Donkey Kong Island, Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong's nephew, has taken on the difficult task of guarding DK's precious banana hoard for one night as part of his "hero training". DK entrusts Diddy to guard the hoard until midnight, then relieve him while DK himself is tired and goes to sleep. Everything seems to be going smoothly in the hoard until Diddy hears noises. Diddy hears voices outside, gets scared and asks who is there. King K. Rool, who had ordered his Kremling henchmen to steal the bananas. Two ropes fall from above and suddenly two critters appear. Diddy knocks them both over with ease, but then a Krusha (Klump in the instructions) comes as a backup. Since Diddy is not strong enough to defeat Krusha alone, he is overpowered and defeated by the Kremling. The lizards seal Diddy in a barrel and then throw him into the bushes. Donkey's grandfather, Cranky Kong, rushes into the tree house to tell Donkey Kong to wake up so he can tell him what happened. He then tells Donkey to go look in his banana cave. Donkey Kong is furious and yells that the Kremlings will pay for stealing his banana stash and kidnapping his little friend. Donkey goes on to say that he will go to every corner of the island to get his bananas back.
