Destiny
Bungie has emphasized that Destiny's universe will be "alive." Events may happen in the game that are not necessarily controlled or planned by the developer, which will help create a dynamic development experience for Bungie and a dynamic gaming experience for players. The style of the game has been described as a first-person shooter with MMO (massively multiplayer online game) elements, but Bungie has avoided defining Destiny as a traditional MMO game. Instead, the game is described as a "shared-world shooter" because it lacks many of the characteristics of a traditional MMO game. Instead of players being able to see and interact with all other players in the game or on a particular server - as is the case in many traditional MMO games - Destiny will incorporate on-the-fly matchmaking, which will allow players to see and interact only with other players with whom they are "matched" by the game. Destiny will include a new game engine that allows global lighting and dynamic real-time lighting to be used together. An innovation in Bungie's "Hopper" technology, which was the backbone of Halo's matchmaking system, will allow for better player matchmaking to create a more natural experience in cooperative or competitive multiplayer.
Story
Setting Destiny is set in the distant future, after an event called the Collapse has ended the Golden Age, initiated by the discovery of the Traveler, and brought humanity to the brink of extinction. The force responsible for the collapse is called "The Darkness" and is indirectly the main antagonist. The battles against the forces of darkness are fought in various places in the solar system. Storyline The game begins with the player's spirit reviving him/her as a guardian after being dead for an unknown period of time. The guardian is quickly forced to fight traps that inhabited the ruins of the nearby Cosmodrome in ancient Russia. With the help of their spirit, the guardian manages to secure a jump ship and escape to the tower where the guardians live at the city limits. After being outfitted and introduced to the Vanguard and Gunsmith, the duo learns from Amanda Holliday that their Arcadia-class jumpship is missing its warp drive, a component necessary for interplanetary travel. Since the part and flight-capable jumpships are generally scarce, the Guardian is forced to return to where they found the ship to find the part.
