Deep Sky Derelicts puts players in the arduous life of a society outcast, a scavenger trying to make a living while striving for a better life as a full citizen. Players explore abandoned alien ships, fight, scavenge, hire mercenaries on their team, buy new weapons and upgrade their equipment. The game's retro-futuristic comic book aesthetic creates a distinctive dark atmosphere in deep space, unfamiliar locations, and a lost dystopian society. Roguelike elements such as procedurally generated dungeons, turn-based combat with card-based actions, and deadly threats lurking around every corner draw players into a ruthless but fascinating world with its own unique story.
Story
"They drift in the void. Desolate, but not empty." In a bleak, dystopian future where humanity is scattered across the galaxy and human society has split into two distinct classes, you are a poor, stateless outcast forced to live off the remains of abandoned alien stations and ships in space, but you dream of becoming a privileged citizen and living on the surface of a habitable planet where you can enjoy non-synthetic air, water and food. A fabled abandoned alien ship somewhere in the deep-sky sector of space is your voucher for citizenship and a promise of a comfortable life on a hospitable planet. Hire a squad of up to three mercenary characters and set out from the Scavenger base to explore abandoned ships within your reach. As you search the wrecks for loot and clues, you'll encounter many friendly inhabitants and merchants, but even more frequently, various enemies. Challenge and defeat them in tactical turn-based battles where randomly drawn cards form your rotating arsenal of combat actions, gain experience for yourself and your crew, loot corpses, resupply, and upgrade once back at your base. On the raider's home ship, you can heal and level up your mercenaries, recruit new ones, equip them, upgrade their gear, or recharge energy for life support during missions.
