Daxter

Daxter

Daxter is a 2006 platform video game developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation Portable Daxter centers on the world of the lovable orange enigma made famous by the Jak and Daxter series. The story unfolds as Daxter searches for Jak, who was captured during the events that led to the beginning of "Jak II". Now Daxter is on his own in an unknown location and quickly realizes that he is small and furry, which doesn't improve his chances of survival. To combat a mysterious metal beetle infestation, Daxter takes a job as an exterminator, which allows him to explore parts of Haven City to gather the clues that will lead him to Jak. Daxter allows players to play from his perspective, offering a range of moves with agile abilities that allow players to climb walls, sneak up on enemies, fit into tight spaces and maneuver vehicles. Daxter takes a job as an exterminator to combat a constant invasion of metal bugs and is equipped with gadgets to rid the city of these metallic pests. You'll go toe-to-toe, swatting an army of attacking insects with your flimsy bug swatter or soaring through different environments with your squirt gun as you collect various upgrades.

Story

The game is set in the final months of the 2-year gap depicted in the opening of Jak II (and the aftermath of The Precursor Legacy), between the moment Jak is captured by the Krimzon Guard and the time Daxter finally rescues him from the Krimzon Guard stronghold. The introduction shows Jak being captured while Daxter manages to escape. Almost two years later (unsuccessful in rescuing Jak), Daxter has forgotten to find his friend. An old man named Osmo, whom Daxter meets, hires Daxter as an exterminator, working in various parts of Haven City and occasionally the surrounding areas to destroy beetle-like metal heads, called "Metal Bugs" in the game. During his adventures, Daxter meets a mysterious woman named Taryn who, while not particularly impressed by Daxter's interest in her, occasionally helps him. After completing several missions for Osmo, Daxter sees Jak in a prison zoomer and tries to pursue him. After being cornered by some Krimzon guards (who had noticed Daxter's pursuit), Daxter is rescued by Osmo's son Ximon, who helps him on several more missions, including one to Baron Praxis' palace, where Daxter steals a map of the fortress. Jak is held captive in this prison. After returning to the Annihilation Shop, an arthropod Daxter acquired earlier is killed by Kaeden, an embittered man who appears to be trying to steal Osmo's store but is actually working for Kor, the leader of the Metal Heads. When Daxter tries to stop Kaeden from escaping the store, Kaeden suddenly blows up the store with a bomb he planted inside. Daxter and Osmo survive, and Daxter promises to stop Kaeden, but only after he saves Jak. Daxter infiltrates the fortress and finds Kaeden, who turns out to be a giant metal beetle. Daxter manages to defeat Kaeden, who tries to warn him that Kor is waiting for them outside. He then uses a hover platform to search for Jak in the fortress, leading to the opening scene from Jak II. The game then cuts to a later point in the timeline in Daxter's Naughty Ottsel Bar, where he tells the story to Jak, Keira, Samos, Tess and Taryn.
