Daxter

Daxter

Daxter is a 2006 platform video game developed by Ready at Dawn and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation Portable Daxter centers on the world of the lovable orange enigma made famous by the Jak and Daxter series. The story unfolds as Daxter searches for Jak, who was captured during the events that led to the beginning of "Jak II". Now Daxter is on his own in an unknown location and quickly realizes that he is small and furry, which doesn't improve his chances of survival. To combat a mysterious metal beetle infestation, Daxter takes a job as an exterminator, which allows him to explore parts of Haven City to gather the clues that will lead him to Jak. Daxter allows players to play from his perspective, offering a range of moves with agile abilities that allow players to climb walls, sneak up on enemies, fit into tight spaces and maneuver vehicles. Daxter takes a job as an exterminator to combat a constant invasion of metal bugs and is equipped with gadgets to rid the city of these metallic pests. You'll go toe-to-toe, swatting an army of attacking insects with your flimsy bug swatter or soaring through different environments with your squirt gun as you collect various upgrades.

Story

The game takes place in the final months of the 2-year gap depicted in the opening of Jak II (and the sequels to The Precursor Legacy), between the moment Jak is captured by the Crimean Guard and the time Daxter finally rescues him from the Crimean Guard's stronghold. The introduction shows Jak being captured while Daxter manages to escape. Almost two years later (without success in rescuing Jak), Daxter has forgotten to find his friend. An old man named Osmo, whom Daxter meets, hires Daxter as an exterminator, working in different parts of Haven City and occasionally in the surrounding area to exterminate beetle-like metal heads, called "metal bugs" in the game. During his adventures, Daxter meets a mysterious woman named Taryn, who, although not particularly impressed by Daxter's interest in her, occasionally helps him. After completing a series of missions for Osmo, Daxter sees Jak in a prison zoomer and tries to hunt him down. After being cornered by some Krimzon guards (who had noticed Daxter's pursuit), Daxter is rescued by Osmo's son Ximon, who helps him with a few more missions, including one to Baron Praxis's palace, where Daxter steals a map of the fortress, the prison where Jak is being held. After returning to the destruction store, an arthropod that Daxter acquired earlier is killed by Kaeden, a bitter man who seems to want to steal Osmo's store, but in reality works for Kor, the leader of the Metal Heads. When Daxter tries to stop Kaeden from escaping from the store, Kaeden suddenly blows up the store with a bomb he planted earlier in the store. Daxter and Osmo survive and Daxter promises to stop Kaeden, but only after he rescues Jak. Daxter infiltrates the fortress and finds Kaeden, who turns out to be a giant metal beetle. Daxter manages to defeat Kaeden, who tries to warn him that Kor is waiting for them outside. He then uses a hover platform to search for Jak inside the fortress, leading to the opening scene from Jak II. After that, the game cuts to Daxter's Naughty Ottsel bar at a later point in the timeline, where he tells the story to Jak, Keira, Samos, Tess and Taryn.
