Darkwatch

Darkwatch

Blending the genres of western, horror, and steampunk, Darkwatch tells the story of Jericho Cross, an outlaw gunslinger on the late 19th century American frontier who is turned into a vampire and forcibly recruited by the titular monster-hunting secret organization to fight supernatural forces.

Story

The game's story (narrated by Peter Jason) follows the exploits of Jericho Cross, an outlaw turned vampire, and his recruitment into an ancient order of vampire hunters known as the Darkwatch. After unwittingly freeing the Darkwatch's greatest enemy, a vampire lord named Lazarus Malkoth, Jericho is drafted into the Darkwatch as an elite soldier. However, Jericho slowly turns into a vampire himself after being bitten by Lazarus. The game depicts either Jericho's struggle for humanity or his descent into darkness, depending on what the player does. The game begins in Arizona Territory in 1876, as Jericho attempts to ambush a Darkwatch train transporting the captured Lazarus Malkoth to the Darkwatch Citadel, a frequently mentioned and visited location in the game. In an apparent act of mercy, Lazarus bites Jericho and curses him with the vampire's curse, slowly turning him into one. As the game progresses, Cassidy and Shadow, Jericho's undead horse, are introduced. As the game progresses, Jericho finally arrives at the Darkwatch Citadel, where he meets General Clay Cartwright, the current leader of the Order. Cartwright subjects him to the Torture Maze, the Darkwatch initiation exercise meant as a test for Darkwatch regulators, but Jericho is given a special version designed by Cartwright to kill him. When Jericho passes the test anyway, he starts doing missions for the Darkwatch. His tasks range from repairing the damage he caused to obtaining Darkwatch equipment, such as the Darklight Prism, a stone that allows vampires near him to use their powers and walk in sunlight.
