D
The first installment in the D series, and one of the first games the company released, dealt with taboo topics such as violence and cannibalism, featured full-motion 3D CGI video and a first-person perspective, and was the first game to feature digital actress Laura.
Story
The game begins when Laura Harris is contacted by the Los Angeles Police Department and receives disturbing news: Her father, Dr. Judge Harris, has gone on a mass murder spree and barricaded himself in the hospital. Laura rushes to the scene, desperate to find an explanation for the respected doctor's actions. When she enters the hospital, she is so horrified by the murdered bodies lying around in the hallways that she covers her eyes. When she uncovers them in the 3DO version, she finds herself in an unknown, dark castle. In later versions of the game, she is still in the hospital and continues to explore it until she is brought into the castle by a small metallic creature. Unwilling to give up her quest, Laura continues walking through the dark corridors of the medieval hall. As she tries to find her father, she experiences a series of flashbacks in which her mother is stabbed to death. Laura's father (in the form of an apparition) warns her to leave or she will be stuck in the alternate reality forever. He warns her that he will soon become an emotionless monster and try to kill her. Shaken, Laura makes her way to her father, who lives on the castle's tower. Enraged, the father reveals his family's sordid past: Laura and her father belong to a bloodline with an insatiable appetite for human flesh, dating back to the infamous Dracula. Laura killed and ate her mother years ago, but her father has erased it from her memory. When Dr. Harris begins to turn into a vampire, Laura must make a choice: Kill or be killed. There are four different endings, depending on what the players do at the end.
